I came home one day and saw my apartment number posted on the “parcel received” board. I said to myself, “that’s weird, I didn’t order anything from eBay. ” I picked up my package, which had the return address of a student’s mother, and went to my apartment. I opened the package and omg, a Louis Vuitton box containing a Louis Vuitton wallet!
I had to look it up online to really know what it was and I wanted to know how much it cost since I had never shopped for or priced a Louis Vuitton wallet. Well, I learned the name of the model, I forget now, I think it’s an Elisa, but I will never forget the cost; $430.00! I took pictures. I called my brother.
And then I changed wallets and started using it. Each and every time I stood at a cashier, I wondered if people thought it was a knock off. I began to wonder how much money I should carry in a Louis Vuitton wallet. I began to wonder how much money I should have in the bank to carry a Louis Vuitton wallet. I began to wonder how much money I should have period to carry a Louis Vuitton wallet!
I continued to flip the red leather attached to the zipper pull when I made a purchase, thinking these red leather strips were the mark of the wallet’s authenticity and my merit. After a while I put the wallet away.
The self consciousness and feelings of being an imposter were costing me far more than $430.00.
